Frequently Asked Questions

Prosthodontics FAQs

Prosthodontics specializes in restoring and replacing teeth to rebuild your smile’s function and beauty. At Canyon Rim Dental, you’ll receive comprehensive restorative care that addresses complex dental needs with expert precision and artistry.

What is prosthodontics and how can it help me?

Prosthodontics is the dental specialty focused on diagnosing, planning, and executing restorative and cosmetic treatments. Prosthodontists are like architects for your mouth, formulating comprehensive treatment plans to restore missing or damaged teeth using advanced techniques like dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, and veneers to give you optimal function and aesthetics.
You might benefit from prosthodontic care if you have multiple missing teeth, extensive tooth damage, failed previous restorations, bite problems, or desire a complete smile makeover. Prosthodontics is also ideal for complex cases involving jaw problems, sleep apnea treatment, or rehabilitation after oral cancer treatment. We create comprehensive solutions for challenging dental situations.
Canyon Rim Dental provides a full range of prosthodontic services including dental implants, crowns, bridges, complete and partial dentures, porcelain veneers, full mouth reconstruction, and treatment for TMJ disorders and sleep apnea. We also handle complex cases requiring coordination between multiple procedures to achieve optimal results for function and appearance.
While general dentistry focuses on routine care and simple restorations, prosthodontics involves advanced training in complex restorative procedures and comprehensive treatment planning. Prosthodontists complete 3-4 additional years of specialized education beyond dental school, developing expertise in handling challenging cases that require extensive reconstruction or replacement of teeth and supporting structures.
Full mouth reconstruction involves comprehensively restoring or replacing most or all of your teeth to achieve optimal function, health, and aesthetics. This complex treatment may combine multiple procedures like implants, crowns, bridges, and bite correction over several months. The goal is to create a healthy, beautiful, and fully functional smile that can last for decades.
Treatment time varies significantly based on complexity, ranging from a few weeks for simple cases to several months for full mouth reconstruction. Factors affecting timeline include the number of teeth involved, need for preparatory procedures like bone grafts, healing time requirements, and laboratory fabrication schedules. We’ll provide a detailed timeline during your consultation.
Absolutely! Modern prosthodontic materials and techniques create incredibly natural-looking results. We carefully consider your facial features, skin tone, age, and personal preferences when designing your restorations. High-quality porcelain and advanced fabrication methods produce restorations that are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth, even to dental professionals.
Caring for prosthodontic restorations involves maintaining excellent oral hygiene with regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings. Some restorations may require special cleaning techniques or tools, which we’ll demonstrate. Avoid using teeth as tools, protect against grinding with nightguards if needed, and maintain regular checkups to monitor your restorations’ condition.
Coverage varies by insurance plan and specific treatment. Many prosthodontic procedures are partially covered, especially when medically necessary for function rather than purely cosmetic. Our team will verify your benefits, provide accurate cost estimates, and help maximize your insurance benefits. We also offer payment plans to make comprehensive treatment more affordable.
Our team has extensive training and experience in advanced restorative procedures, including Dr. Delahunty’s specialized hospital residency in complex full mouth rehabilitation. We use state-of-the-art technology like CEREC® for precision restorations and offer comprehensive in-house services to coordinate your entire treatment. This expertise ensures optimal results for even the most challenging prosthodontic cases.

Patient Testimonials

Hundreds of 5-Star Reviews Tell Our Story

From their very first visit, our patients often express that they feel like part of our family. These heartfelt stories truly reflect our unwavering commitment to providing compassionate care and achieving life-changing results for everyone.
I’ve never had a more enjoyable dentist experience than I did at Canyon Rim Dental. I had my new patient visit + cleaning today, and I am amazed at the kind of quality care they gave me. Shanna was my hygienist and performed the perfect balance of gentle but thorough cleaning. “Dr. Sam” was kind and informative when reviewing the visit with me. The office is equipped with the latest innovations in dentistry equipment, including AI assistance for analyzing patient X-rays. I felt like I was given the highest level of care, and I am actually looking forward to my next visit!

They were amazing for me as a new patient! Staff were very warm and friendly and clear with communication. They have an intake survey that asks what they can do to make dental work more comfortable for you and your level of dental anxiety, which is awesome! I’m very glad to have found this place 🙂

I loved all of the staff. There were very kind and understanding. They let me know in details that I could understand as well as answered various questions I had. It had been at least two years since seeing a dentist and I was looking for one I could see since I got a new insurance. I also went in for a suspected cavity I may have had due to some pain that I was having for over a month. They checked as well as told me I needed to have a root canal procedure. They told me after they got some of it done that they still have some more time for me to finish the temporary crown until the final part. I really appreciate this

I have been a terrible adult and neglected finding a dentist since I left the Kent, WA area in 2016 (don’t tell my wonderful dentist there he would be so disappointed in me) Shor story is it’s now 2025 and I wish I would have search sooner. DR. SAM DELAHUNTY performed a what felt to me like a complex root canal therapy for me today in not only a professional manner and expedient manner but also with kindness and care that you really want when people are drilling around sensitive nerves. He answered any questions I had and even followed up later with me in the evening. I have plenty more work for their team ( don’t neglect your teeth cleanings kids) and i am nothing but excited to return for the offices services. I wish i would have caught the names of all the staff in the office they are always so friendly. Cannot recommend this office more.
